One of the trickiest parts of creating a free ClickyWalls set isn’t the modelling or the printing – it’s deciding what to leave out.
When someone downloads the free Tavern files, for many of them this will be their first ever experience with ClickyWalls. My goal isn’t to throw every clever feature at them all at once – it’s to make sure they can print, build, and play quickly and confidently, without feeling overwhelmed by lots of small, fiddly parts.
So with that in mind, I’ve made a few deliberate simplifications to the free Tavern set.
Fewer Parts, Same Freedom
In the full ClickyWalls system, there are some more advanced elements designed for flexibility and customisation:
- Removable wooden wall inserts
- Three different types of structural supports
- A wide variety of roof styles
They’re great once you’re familiar with the system – but for a first build, they can add unnecessary complexity.
For the free Tavern set, I’ve streamlined things.
Supports: One That Does It All
Instead of including all three support types, the free Tavern uses one central support design.
This support:
- Is strong enough for all standard builds
- Keeps alignment consistent
- Reduces the number of parts you need to print
- Makes assembly much more intuitive
You can still build multi-storey structures, interiors, and exterior walls — just without having to think about which support goes where.
Walls: Built-In Simplicity
The removable wooden wall system is a clever feature, but it introduces extra parts and extra decisions during assembly.
For the free Tavern, the walls are fixed and straightforward:
- Fewer prints
- Faster builds
- Less chance of confusion for first-time users
You still get great-looking walls that work perfectly for gameplay, without needing to manage inserts or optional components.
Roofs: Streamlined, Not Restricted
In the full system, there are around five or six different roof variations. For the free Tavern, I’ve narrowed this down to three core roof types.
These cover:
- Simple single-storey buildings
- Multi-storey taverns
- Variations in layout and footprint
It keeps the file list manageable while still giving you plenty of freedom to design interesting buildings.
Why This Matters
When someone is new to ClickyWalls, I want their first experience to be:
- Print → build → play
- Not print → get confused → give up
By reducing part count and removing some of the more intricate elements, the free Tavern becomes:
- Easier to understand
- Faster to assemble
- More approachable for beginners
And crucially — you can still build proper, playable buildings.
Want the Extra Detail?
Nothing has been lost — it’s just been separated.
All of the more advanced components:
- Removable wooden walls
- Additional support types
- Extra roof variations
Will be available as a separate add-on bundle. That way, once you’re comfortable with the system, you can expand your builds without having to relearn anything.
A Gentle First Step
The free Tavern set is designed as a starting point, not a limitation.
If you’ve never used ClickyWalls before, this gives you everything you need to jump in, get printing, and start building immediately — without being buried under options.
And if you want more complexity later, it’s there when you’re ready.
