Roof Tiles
Today was mostly spent fleshing out the website and improving the visuals. I’ve been pulling across a lot more images from the design software to help show how the system works and to make the site feel clearer and more inviting.
I’ve also made a few important tweaks to existing parts — particularly the roof tiles. I realised that the fixing holes in the tiles didn’t go all the way through; they were only a couple of millimetres deep. Because of that, it was surprisingly easy to knock tiles loose during handling and play.
While testing, I also noticed an alignment issue. When a higher roof section continues in the same direction, the tiles line up perfectly. However, when that upper roof is rotated 90 degrees, a small gap appears between the tiles. It’s subtle, but once you see it, you can’t unsee it.
I briefly considered designing a separate filler piece to hide the gap, but that felt like adding complexity for the sake of it. Instead, I’ve redesigned the tiles to include multiple fixing holes. Depending on the orientation of the adjoining roof, you simply use a different set of holes, allowing the tiles to sit correctly in both configurations.
Those updated tiles are printing tonight. Tomorrow morning I’ll be checking whether the solution works as intended — fingers crossed, but it feels like the right fix.
More to follow.
